French beauty giant Clarins may be the latest company in line for a takeover. On Wednesday (June 20), a French magazine claimed that luxury goods companies PPR and LVMH had shown interest in acquiring the prestigious cosmetic firm.
According to a report from Challenges magazine, Clarins management told employee reps that PPR and LVMH had expressed interest, with L'Oreal also rumoured to be angling for a bid. So far, Clarins has refused to corrobrate the story.
The 53-year-old cosmetics company has been the subject of takeover speculation ever since its founder, Jacques Courtin-Clarins, died in March this year. Until now, the company has remained a strictly family affair, but some industry observers believe Jacques' sons Christian and Olivier might be more open to a sale than their father was.
