Saving the world, one bag at a time

If you haven't heard of this bag yet, you've been living under a rock. That's British designer Anya Hindmarch's genius $15 'I'm Not A Plastic Bag' canvas tote that's being touted as a fashionable (and eco-friendly) alternative to the plastic bag.

This humble bag created such a frenzy when it went on sale in England in April, that devotees lined up at 2 am outside humdrum supermarkets and all 20,000 pieces were gone by 9 am. Several would-be owners were trampled in Taipei, Taiwan in July and a mob of Hindmarch fans forced police to shut down a mall in Hong Kong for the same reason - all for a bag meant to lug home your groceries from the supermarket!

An article on Time.com says:

The frenzy surrounding these limited-edition bags is the result of a calculated effort to encourage shoppers to use fewer disposable plastic sacks, some 88 billion of which are consumed each year in the U.S. alone, with many ending up stuck in trees, clogging roadside drains and killing the birds and sea creatures that accidentally ingest them.

As legislators around the globe debate whether to tax or ban outright these petroleum-based products - which experts estimate take up to 1,000 years to decompose - celebrities have been doing their part to steer consumers down a greener path. This year's trendy eco-tote has been photographed on the arms of actresses Keira Knightley, Alicia Silverstone and Reese Witherspoon.

Going Green rather fashionably, yes?

I want!

The promoters of Hello Kitty, the mouthless cat-turned-global icon of cuteness, have gone into overdrive by pitching products targetted at the uber rich. Among the things I loved most is this oh-so-precious Hello Kitty diamond pendant by Kimora Lee Simmons. This nine-carat convertible pendant/brooch is priced at a whopping $50,000.

Then there's the Hello Kitty guitar from Fender's limited edition collection that's so cute my girly side is about to explode! This exclusive guitar is available for sale in Japan for $22,000. Sighhh.

P.S. Has anyone else noticed how all the cutest things are sold in Japan? I'm seriously considering moving into a matchbox in Tokyo!

I want!

It's shiny, it's happy, it's got bling and I'm in love! Sony has just announced the launch of the NW-E010 series mp3 player that can also be used as a USB memory stick. Available in five colours with Swarovski crystals, and 2GB and 4GB versions, the gadget will be available in Japan by September.

Such coolness!

I want!

... an iPhone and a super luxurious case for it from Louis Vuitton. With the iPhone set to become the must-have gagdet of the century, it's no surprise that the luxury goods maker is one of the first to come out with a case to complement the phone.

The cases, priced between $225 to $1,120 (they actually cost more than the iPhone!), come in materials from the classic monogram canvas to real alligator skin and will be available exclusively at LV's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan from Monday (July 16).

Of course, those of us in parts of the world not called America will have to wait until next year to even get a glimpse of the phone, let alone these uber sexy cases.

Life's a bitch and all that.

Here's a look at the LG-Prada phone, that T3Online has unboxed. Super cool. But I'll reserve my judgement till I see the iPhone in person!

Such cuteness! Here's an espresso machine I'd like to wake up to... even though I've pretty much given up on coffee.

Get details here.
